Video: Hotfox “Picnic” (JamintheVan SXSW Session)

Thought on Tracks favorites Hotfox shared a boss new video from their March excursion to SXSW. The video, below, features the band performing “Picnic” for the mobile video blog JamintheVan. The track is one of the stronger songs that the band has inked since releasing their debut LP You, Me, and the Monster last summer. After a few seconds of collective dissonance, Hotfox gets down to business offering up a sound so large that it rattles the van’s walls. It’s always cool when a band chooses to explode beyond the constraints of a small setting rather than conform their sound.

Video: Waters “Mickey Mantle” (Bus Session)

The best songs are generally great in any format. The Beach Boys classics would have been just as palatable with the band’s original five members blasting out pitch-perfect harmonies on a beach-side boardwalk, as in the studio with  a symphony at their disposal. By the same token, Nirvana proved that their heavy grunge sound translated to an acoustic environment on their legendary Unplugged in New York album in the early 90s.

San Francisco rockers WATERS recently reaffirmed this theory during a bus session for Indie Ambassador at SXSW in Austin. Below, watch as WATERS performs a stripped-down version of their song “Mickey Mantle.”  The song is every bit as vibrant as the album version. The band recently rocked Radio Radio in support of Delta Spirit. They will return to Indianapolis on June 23rd as the opening act for Nada Surf at Deluxe at Old National Centre. Video: Michael Kiwanuka “Lasan” (Live From Brussels)

A while back, we featured a new song from the U.K.’s Michael Kiwanuka. The song was entitled “Lasan” (Listen) and featured The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach on guitar. Today, Kiwanuka dropped a video for the track. This time, though he rocks the song solo on the streets of Brussels. Next week, Kiwanuka will Austin’s SXSW festival. I am anticipating his appearance to generate a significant stateside buzz for the performer, who has been consistently selling out venues overseas. Check out Kiwanuka’s SXSW schedule and peep his new video below:

Wed, March 14th, 3pm :: KCRW Official SXSW Showcase :: Austin Convention Centre
Fri, March 16th, 11:45pm :: Communion Records official show :: St David’s Historic Sanctuary
Sat, March 17th, 8pm :: John Mayer support :: Stubbs BBQ
