Fresh Track: Hook & The Twin “We’re So Light”
British duo Hook & The Twin are set to release their debut, full length LP early next year. The band recently dropped the second single from the forthcoming album, entitled “We’re So Light.” Last month, MTV included the band in its Brand New Unsigned competition. Album Stream: Everything, Now! ‘Do It On The Moon’
Indianapolis band Everything, Now! dropped their fifth release this week. Do It on the Moon may not be the best play at the start of your day. Save this listen for your drive home from work. This album is a celebration.
The band screams dire warnings about the future over joyous romps of punchy guitars and choruses that sound like choirs of schoolchildren, as if testing the audience to see if they’ll get the joke.
On “Imagine 2040”, the lead singer offers a bleak outloook, saying: “In 2040, Russia owns the beaches where the ice caps used to be / And China has moved to the moon, with the fortunes from all those air factories / They’re fighting off the Mexicans in space stations made from trees.” This post-apocalyptic landscape that Everything, Now! has created is humorous but serves as a legitimate look into the concerns of the present.
This album is rock solid, both from a lyrical and musical standpoint. There is no weakest link. This is not a talentless garage band, mashing out harmonyless recording in their stoner uncle’s makeshift recording studio. This is good shit and the kind of album that Indy residents can be legitimately proud of. Listen below:

Album Stream: Jessie Baylin ‘Pleasure Center EP’
New Jersey native and Nashville transplant Jessie Baylin released an EP worth getting excited about last week. Pleasure Center EP clocks in at just under 21 minutes, achieving an astonishing amount of fun in such a short time. The EP features four covers and one original.
I was immediately intrigued by the variety of artists that Baylin chose to cover: Thin Lizzy, Stevie Nicks, Sonic Youth, and Arthur Russell is a diverse group to draw from. Yet Baylin makes each track her own, much the same way that Cat Power was able to achieve on her 2000 release The Covers Record.
Pleasure Center EP is a direct departure from Baylin’s 2008 release Firesight. She trades a full, studio sound for the stark simplicity of the 4-track. The EP was produced by Richard Swift (The Shins), giving Baylin an indie credibility that until now was nonexistent. Here’s hoping her new sound rubs off on hubby Nathan Followill of The Kings of Leon.
