Fresh Track + Video: Something in Spanish “For Slowing Down”
It’s that time of the year when clothes are a nuisance. It’s hot in the streets. We haven’t seen rain in weeks in the Midwest. In the daylight, everything takes on this sun burnt, brownish hue. It’s like central California in the dry season, only flat and no coast for miles. But the evenings are long and pleasant. By the time the sun finally falls, the clock has moved well beyond all good intentions. It’s at these moments where lapses in judgment often occur. In my experience, at moments of weak will, it’s best to have a soundtrack at hand.
I present Brooklyn trio Something in Spanish and their pulsating, synth-infused single “For Slowing Down”. This track was designed for summer nights, complete with a video montage that captures 80s Miami in all of its glorious excess. “For Slowing Down” packs enough of a bass line for the dance floor, and lead singer Michelle Perez carries a melody that begs for repeated plays. Fresh Track: Odd Hours “Electric Soul”
What can we say about Mondays? [Insert lame description of the everyman office space, marked by sagging eyes, deficient attention spans and general malaise.] By the afternoon, our eyes begin to wander to the room’s corners for what could be just a few seconds or tens of minutes, before a quick shudder snaps things back into focus. In this brief moment of clarity we realize that the better part of the last hour was spent retracing “The Fabulous Belding Boys” episode of Saved by the Bell. A quick glance at the time brings the harsh truth that much of the day’s business remains.
Enter Detroit’s Odd Hours with a bit of foot-stomping motivation. The band recently dropped “Electric Soul”, the lead single from their debut EP Solar Plexus Power of Babooshka. The album release party will be held this Saturday at The Old Miami. “Electric Soul” features the power pop sensibilities of The Black Keys latest release El Camino, with lead singer Natasha Beste providing an addictive chorus line that may serve as the pep that your step has so desperately needed.

Video: Black Fabio ft. Toni Royale “Reggie Miller”
Indianapolis’ Rad Summer dropped a new video for their Black Fabio project this morning. The track “Reggie Miller” features some caustic, misandristic rhymes courtesy of female MC Toni Royale with Oreo Jones closing things off nicely. The song originally appeared on the Black Fabio mixtape, available for free from Musical Family Tree. “Reggie Miller” features one of Action Jackson’s signature backbeats, with a synth-heavy sample that is certain to implant itself firmly in your psyche for the remainder of the day.
