Fresh Track + Video: Daniel and the Lion “Free Love”

I have previously expressed my support for artists that do not take themselves too seriously. From the “World Premiere” music video for their song “Free Love” below, we can assume that Daniel Pingrey and Jimmie Linville of Daniel and the Lion are two musicians who no one would mistake for pretentious. The duo hails from Madison, WI. They dropped “Free Love” on Tuesday. The track is a touch on the sappy side, but the vocals and production work are terrific. And I’ll be damned if the song isn’t catchy as hell. To be honest, I’ll jam out to just about anything with a foot stomp and a hand clap – I’m kidding, sort of. Classic, clean songwriting from two dudes who look like they’d be fun to hang with. Stream the single, and sharpen your culinary skills below. Download the track for free via Daniel and the Lion’s Bandcamp page.

Fresh Track + Video: Toy Soldiers “Maybe”

Yesterday, Philadelphia five-piece Toy Soldiers dropped a 3-track EP entitled Tell the Teller. The songs will likely be featured on an as yet untitled full length, due out later this year. If their brand of soulful rock is reminiscent of fellow Philly natives Dr. Dog, it is with good reason. This material was recorded under the guidance of Bill Moriarty, who has served as Dr. Dog’s longtime Producer. Listen and watch a video for “Maybe” below. Name your price for a copy of Tell the Teller via Bandcamp.

Fresh Track: Joywave “True Grit”

They say everything that goes around, comes around.  What was once in style will disappear, and then undeniably make its triumphant return 20 years later with a new generation.  The reemergence of vinyl, bellbottoms, people using dial-up modems to connect to AOL again just to hear “You’ve Got Mail!”…ok, well some things really do die, but you get the point.  Music is no different.  Over the past year-or-so more 80’s-inspired new wave music has been made and gained mainstream success at any point since the initial movement.  Welcome to the millennial-wave.

Rochester, NY based band Joywave is the latest act to join in on the craze and require my attention.  Earlier this week they dropped their newest single “True Grit” off their soon to be released EP Koda Vista which is due to drop on March 27th and available for pre-order on the band’s BandCamp page.  A mix of your standard synths, keys, and warm vocals, this track will put a spring in your step as you head out for your day.
