Video: Peter Terry & The City Profits “The Lawyer”

Peter Terry & The City Profits are no strangers to Thought on Tracks. We covered their debut LP I AM JACKSON when it dropped last November. The Hoosier natives and Nashville, TN residents are back with a video for their soulful new single entitled “The Lawyer.” Here, we find Terry on keys and vocals, leading a bass-driven foot-stomper fit for Carole King. Watch the video that features Terry and the Profits  visually debating the merits of the downtown hustle versus the release found in a great jam with your boys. Grab a free download of “The Lawyer.”

Video: The Orwells “In My Bed”

There is a certain inherent youthfulness that underlies rock and roll. It’s tough to define, but you know it when you see it. Since its inception, rock’s narrative has been crafted by cocksure, rebellious characters on a path towards upheaval. Thus, it should come as no surprise that a Chicago five-piece, comprised entirely of 17 year-olds, appears next in line to leave their mark on rock and roll’s evolving history.

On August 7, The Orwells will release their debut LP Remember When (pre-order) on Autumn Tone Records. The band has dropped a trio of videos as an appetizer. My personal favorite can be found below. The video for “In My Bed” features clips of Santa Monica’s legendary Z-Boys skateboard team. Another group of teenagers that once set its sights on lighting its respective scene on fire. The Orwells have spent the past couple of weeks cutting their teeth in and around Los Angeles. Initial impressions appear favorable (see: Live Music Blog). Check out the track list for Remember When, and brace yourself for a new teenage crush.

Fresh Track: Icona Pop “I Love It”

Swedish electro pop outfit Icona Pop makes happy music.  Several months ago, I stumbled across their song “Manners” on the blogosphere and was immediately lifted to maximum satisfaction.  The sound is thick and the chorus infectious. My infatuation with this group was easy to fall into after the latest production of great music produced by Sweden.  Bands like jj, The Knife, Lykke Li, The Radio Dept. and Shout Out Louds have all contributed to the growth of Swedish indie pop and made it easier for bands like Icona Pop to be accepted globally.

The spirits of summer ignited as new Icona Pop single “I Love It” came crashing through the speakers of my Jeep Wrangler during a spin on Sirius XMU.  A dreary drive home was transformed into a summer time escape.  Icona Pop uses a thumping bass drum to build momentum before smothering the beat with their contagious lyrics. As I stay glued to this track I wait anxiously for more opportunities for the Swedish music scene to add to its growing resumé. Icona Pop is currently in the studio recording their debut LP with an as-yet-to-be-determined release date.  Those struck with electro pop anticipation can dig back on their EP Nights Like This.  A Swedish sample that intends to sooth.
