Fresh Track + Video: Pevin Kinel “Fake ppl”
Pevin Kinel is a French-born independent multi-instrumentalist that currently makes his bed in London. This week, Kinel released the first track from his forthcoming LP Syntactic Sugars, due out June 5. “Fake ppl” lies somewhere between experimental, minimalist think-pop (is that a word?) and the schizophrenic inner ramblings of an eloquent LSD user. Call it what you may, but the song tickles the back of the neck and forces the listener to wonder for a while.
“Fake Ppl” is best served with a decent pair of headphones and an open mind. The video does nothing to tame the peculiarity of the song, but raise your hand if you’re complaining. By the end of this ride, you’ll be wondering where you’ve been for the last two and a half minutes. I’ll be damned if I wasn’t hitting replay the moment it got to the end. In the interest of full disclosure, I’m also a big fan of anyone that switches the first letters in their first and last names. This, in my experience, is a sign of pure genius at that work (case in point: former Butler Bulldog Hatt Moward). Enjoy.

Video: Rusty Redenbacher “Golden Years” (David Bowie Cover)
Rusty Redenbacher has been one of the hardest working members of the Indianapolis hip hop scene since I was copping my first feel on the dance floor back in junior high. One need look no further than the man’s twitter feed to understand just how relentless Rusty’s commitment to his craft can be. The latest installment in Rusty’s seemingly endless catalog can be found below. Here, Rusty trades hip hop hooks for glam rock glory on a terrific cover of David Bowie’s “Golden Years.”
One of the things that I admire most about Rusty is his willingness to try anything. What’s so surprising is how often this experimentation succeeds. Help The Bonesetters Play Bonnaroo
Get your clickers ready folks, today is the last day to assist local, indie rock outfit The Bonesetters in their attempt to play Bonnaroo this summer. The Bonesetters were responsible one of my favorite local releases of 2011, with their debut LP SAVAGES!
The band is currently part of Sonicbids’ Road to the Roo competition through Facebook. Sonicbids is the same group that brought Bloomington’s Hotfox to SXSW earlier this spring
The Bonesetters will need to reach the Top 10 in voting by midnight tonight in order to qualify for the next round of voting. So tell your sister, tell your mama, tell your friend and your friend’s mama to get to clicking! Let’s get some more ears on a local project that deserves a wider audience. VOTE HERE!
