Fresh Track: Earl Sweatshirt “Chum”

Earl Sweatshirt isn’t the type of rapper to drop a half-assed mixtape, let alone a throwaway single, so it’ doesn’t surprise that his first official solo song since his return from Samoa is the kind of track that deserves your undivided attention.  “Chum” is the perfect way to get up to speed with the 18 year old MC’s perspective and talent if you haven’t been paying attention to this point.  Earl addresses the newfound fame and attention he’s received, “Back a week and already feel like calling it quits” and shows off his ever present wordplay with lines like “Feeling as hard as Vince Carter’s knee cartilage is”.  Earl’s solo album won’t be released until 2013, but if “Chum” is any indication it won’t be lacking the quality control that has been his trademark to this point.
