Fresh Track: Night Moves “Country Queen”
I shared a smoke with Minneapolis’ Night Moves after the band’s July 14 opening set for Father John Misty at Schubas Tavern in Chicago. After some time spent gushing over Minneapolis’ burgeoning indie rock scene, lead singer John Pelant informed me of their debut LP Colored Emotions, due to drop on October 9. The album’s second single “Country Queen” arrived late last week. Listen below. Night Moves is scheduled to hit the road with Lord Huron for the entire month of October. All available dates are featured below.

Vacation Club Kicks Off Summer Tour
We typically avoid posting tour dates on this site. After all, the blog is called Thought on Tracks, and there isn’t too much thinking that goes into copying and pasting a tour schedule. That being said, we’re always happy to shed light on Indy bands worthy of some out-of-town attention.
Tonight, Indianapolis-based Vacation Club kicks off their summer tour with a stop at Chicago’s Ultra Lounge. The band is set to release their self-titled EP, available in cassette form on July 25 from Happenin’ Records. The EP is currently available for download via Bandcamp. Listen to new track “Hold My Hand” below, and get out to see these cats in the flesh! Vacation Club brings a high energy, punk rock attitude to their live shows that borders on abrasive but never fails to entertain. From the looks of their tour schedule, they’ve still got a few nights available for booking. Non-Hoosiers, don’t sleep on this opportunity!

Band to Watch: Jeff Beam
Jeff Beam writes the type of sleepy, psychedelia-infused jams that my mind absorbs like comfort food. His reverb-heavy vocals are reminiscent of Jim James’ trippier material, but the delivery comes across as more sinister. On his LP Be Your Own Mirror, Beam creates an environment where the familiar becomes not-so. The album is something like attending a masquerade ball where the guests are served mushroom tea. In Beam’s world, the moon won’t glow, solutions are destroyed and everyone speaks existentially.
The Portland, Maine native has released a significant amount of material for an artist only 24 years old. Be Your Own Mirror is Beam’s fourth solo effort. He is also a former member of the Boston’s The Stereo Flys and current member of The Milkman’s Union. Beam’s ability to work as a multi-instrumentalist makes him a versatile asset.
Beginning June 19, Beam will hit the road for a handful of East Coast tour dates in support of his solo record. Listen to the lead-off track from Be Your Own Mirror, “Whispering Poison in his Ear” and watch the video for single “Now” below. If you are lucky enough to be in the area, check him out in the flesh later this month.
