Live & Reel + Daytrotter Session: Andrew Combs

Texas-born Nashville, TN resident Andrew Combs has had a big year. The singer-songwriter’s debut EP, Tennessee Time, has been steadily gaining momentum since its May release. The five songs harken back to the writing of country legends like Hank Williams and Guy Clark, feeling as if they have been staples of Music City jukeboxes for years. Listen to my personal favorite, “Too Stoned to Cry”, below:

In November, Combs offered fans a pair of terrific supplements to his initial release. He recorded a trio of new tracks with our pals at Live & Reel. “Heavy”, “Devil’s Got My Woman”, and “Playing The Part” fall in line nicely with the foundation Combs built on Tennessee Time. Watch “Devil’s Got My Woman” below and visit Live & Reel to see the rest of his session.

The release of Combs’ Daytrotter Session came a few days later. The visit featured a combination of songs from his EP and his newer tracks. Listen and download the full session HERE. Connect with Combs via Facebook | Twitter | Bandcamp.

Live & Reel Session: The Little Bear

Last month we featured the first two videos from Nashville’s Live and Reel video series. The series is a monthly feature from Reel Recording. As I said then, I’m looking forward to see the consistently great material that surfaces out of this upstart. With Indiana-native Mark Galup at the helm, we can expect consistent, solid songwriters like The Little Bear to appear here.

This quartet, led by blonde siren Claire Guerreso, harkens back to the simple songwriting of their Nashville roots. Signed to Plastic 350 Records, the band recently released their debut EP Bridges. The two songs featured on their Live & Reel Session are “Sweet as Honey” and “Hello.” Stream the videos below, then go pick up Bridges for $5, HERE.

VIDEO: Indiana Native Opens Recording Studio in Nashville

I was excited to learn that a college friend recently opened Reel Recording in Nashville, TN. Indiana native Mark Galup serves as the studio’s owner and chief engineer. Galup was a Recording Arts major from IU Bloomington. A talented musician in his own right, Galup could often be found around BTown playing with the likes of IU professor Andy Hollinden.

The studio’s “goal is to venture away from the typical and help to reenergize and reinvent the Nashville sound and the recording community at large.” One way they hope to do just that is through their Live & Reel web series. If the first two segments from Evan P. Donohue and Natalie Prass are any indication, Reel Recording is a studio worth keeping your eyes on.
