Tonight: The Bears of Blue River at White Rabbit Cabaret

Spring is in full swing and summer is just around the corner. As sunshine and warm weather become the norm, the weekend has a tendency to creep into the work week.  Beers on a patio prove more mandatory than tempting when the temperature hits 75 and a light breeze is afloat. Tonight, White Rabbit Cabaret offers Indy residents a particularly tantalizing reason to venture out.

We have grown quite fond of Chicago’s The Bears of Blue River around these parts. Their album Dames is one that I’ve kept in steady rotation since it dropped last October. The folk-driven release has gained some traction, as the band recently laid down their second Daytrotter session. Hoosier ties run deep here.  Richard Edwards of Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s handled pre-production responsibilities, while Tyler Watkins (producer of The Bonesetters SAVAGES!) served as engineer on Dames. Watch as The Bears of Blue River competes with the sounds of Brooklyn’s night life on an unplugged rendition of “Blue Ribbon” below.

Up-and-coming Bloomington, IN band Chandelier Ballroom will be on hand as support. Their debut EP Long Division was one that caught our attention last year. The band combines synthesizer, heavy bass and the vocal prowess of lead singer Steven Elmlinger for a psychedelic blend of lo-fi, alt rock. Listen to their latest track “Organs” below.

Winter may have been mild this year, but Indy’s best evenings are just starting to hit their stride. Don’t sleep on what is certain to be a memorable night of music at White Rabbit Cabaret. Indianapolis’ own Great Future will round out the formidable cast of characters.  Tickets to the show are a mere $5. What do you have to lose?

Fresh Track: Chandelier Ballroom “Theme (to a Star Death)”

One band that I’ve got my eye on heading into 2012 is Bloomington, IN’s Chandelier Ballroom. The band released their debut EP Long Division in September. My favorite track from the release is featured below. I’m looking forward to seeing what else this quartet has up their sleeve. They’re playing tonight at Reggie’s in Chicago with more shows in Brooklyn and Philadelphia in the coming weeks.
