It’s Bloomington day on Thought on Tracks, and with good reason. Today marks the release of She Does Is Magic’s My Height in Heels. God willing, I’ll have a review out the door by early this afternoon. Before we get there though, I would like to introduce fellow B-town residents Wet Blankets.
This band has jumped out of the gates with a home-run debut single in the form of “Patio” – a yearning, rollicking teen dream of a tune. The track is the first taste of the forthcoming five-track EP Sheepy Love, due out October 16 on Crossroads of America Records. The vinyl is limited to just 200 copies. If “Patio” is any indication, Sheepy Love is looking like a worthy addition to the collection. Pre-order your copy today.

The Wailin’ Smithers is a new band from Bloomington, IN. Yesterday, the band released a demo of their latest track “Ocean Song.” The track is immediately reminiscent of Albert Hammond Jr.’s solo work on his underrated 2006 LP Yours to Keep. The Wailin’ Smithers have just a handful of shows under their belt, mostly house parties and a few opening spots at The Bishop. The band has written an album’s worth of material, and hopes to enter the studio soon. For now, listen and download “Ocean Song” below. Don’t miss out on a free download of their debut single “Over and Over”, released in November of last year.

On Friday, Bloomington garage rock trio Apache Dropout offered listeners their first taste of the band’s forthcoming LP Bubblegum Graveyard. “Candy Bar” picks up where the band left off on their well-received, self-titled debut (free download). The six-track release was built upon playful writing, heavy distortion and a confidence well-beyond a band that should still be reaching for an identity. Listen and download “Candy Bar” from Soundcloud. Bubblegum Graveyard is due to drop on August 8 via Chicago label Trouble in Mind.
