Fresh Track: Pony Trash “Submarine”
Pony Trash is the Minneapolis-based side project of Polica bassist Chris Bierden. The four-piece band recently dropped their debut single in the form of the shoegaze, slow roll “Submarine.” The breathy, psychedelic-infused vocals are reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s trippier material. The band has plans to release a 12″ EP later in the year, with no concrete date in place.
All of Pony Trash’s four members maintain roles in a variety of other musical projects, indicating the inner-connectivity of Minneapolis’ growing underground music scene. I keep stumbling upon more and more terrific sounds coming from this city. Female trio Is/Is’ album III is another Minneapolis release worthy of your attention.

Fresh Track: The Wailin’ Smithers “Ocean Song” (demo)
The Wailin’ Smithers is a new band from Bloomington, IN. Yesterday, the band released a demo of their latest track “Ocean Song.” The track is immediately reminiscent of Albert Hammond Jr.’s solo work on his underrated 2006 LP Yours to Keep. The Wailin’ Smithers have just a handful of shows under their belt, mostly house parties and a few opening spots at The Bishop. The band has written an album’s worth of material, and hopes to enter the studio soon. For now, listen and download “Ocean Song” below. Don’t miss out on a free download of their debut single “Over and Over”, released in November of last year.

Video: Bowerbirds “Sweet Moment”
Raleigh, NC’s Bowerbirds released an impossibly cute video for their track “Sweet Moment” today. The track appears on Bowerbirds latest album, The Clearing, released in March. The video features a young girl ditching, what appears to be, the trek to college for a cross-country road trip with her boyfriend. The footage fits nicely with the song’s Buddhist notion of living in the present. Grab your copy of The Clearing from Dead Oceans.
