Video: KEXP Session – The Very Best

I’m not going to lie – it’s been a pretty shitty week living here in Cincinnati.  I hate to say that sports controls the life, but there’s no denying that a winner in the city is always more fun than a loser.  The vibe is better.  People are congregating in the same place and high fiving strangers.  In the post MidPoint hangover, I expected the Reds to keep the party rolling during the first few weeks of October.  But, alas, they did not.  And now it’s Monday.  But you know what, fuck it.  Here’s a The Very Best session that via the stellar guys and gals over at KEXP that will at least get my (and your) week off to a great start.  So if your ears have ever ventured upon the great “Warm Heart of Africa” featuring Vampy Weeks Ezra Koenig, you know exactly what to expect: more fantastic reggae vibes.  Let’s have a good week people.  In the name of my college professor Lesley James – “Are you with me?”

Set list:

  1. Rudeboy
  2. Yoshua Alikuti
  3. Kondaine
  4. We OK

Video: Blouse KEXP Session

The warm souls over at KEXP dropped a previously recorded session with Portland’s Blouse late last week, adding yet another gem to their collection.  Blouse’s self-titled LP was released earlier this year via Captured Tracks and, in my eyes, has to be one of the most underrated releases to hit the indie scene over the past 9 months.  The performance shown in its entirety below is intriguing in a multitude of ways, mainly being that it does not feature member Jacob Portrait (also of Unknown Mortal Orchestra) and was performed at a time when, according the lead singer Charlie Hilton, the band has only played live about 15 times.  Despite the short list of rehearsals in front of breathing human beings, the group’s sound is pretty spot on with the album, especially during hit “Into Black”.

Track Listing:

1. Roses

2. They Always Fly Away

3. Nights & Days

4. Into Black

Video: The Drums KEXP Session

If I could think of one dream job, it might just be to work at Seattle’s KEXP radio station.  I may have even written that sentence before on this site, but really it’s the truth.  Simply put, every legitimate act on the road always seems to drop by, chat it up, and play a live performance.  Luckily for us, they love posting them on the Internet for the world’s enjoyment.  Last week, they posted a session of Thought on Tracks favorites The Drums.  Recorded in October in support of the their brilliant 2011 LP Portamento, it’s an amazing four song set and interview featuring the following songs:

  1. What You Were
  2. Money
  3. Best Friend
  4. Days

So kick back with a cup of coffee and some toast, and enjoy a little of The Drums to start your hump day.
