Fresh Track: Hospitality “Friends of Friends”
I sit here and cringe as I think about the obnoxious marimba tone that will be ringing in my ear at 3:00 am this morning. I will be asked to be alive before the careless have gone to bed. The coffee will be stale tomorrow. I will look half-alive as I hit the terminal, and realize that I will need a special catalyst to carry me on my journey out east. This session of zombie travel will be rewarded with a midday arrival in the greatest city on earth: New York. A special motivating song is the only way I am going to fight through this morning. A welcoming band from Brooklyn will carry me to my destination.
Hospitality was formed in 2007 and they released their debut full-length on January 31. Since this record entered my world I have let it carry me through my early mornings. The vocals of Amber Papini constantly call for a party and beg for me to exist. Track, “Friends of Friends” begins will simple, howling chords. Offering more breath than a cup of espresso this song causes me to bounce much in the same way as songs that make up the CSS and YACHT colleagues. Enter Papini’s appropriate opening line “I don’t want to go, down to 14th street, in old New York, I’d rather be home” and now I have myself an anthem.
As I trudge through the terminal, “Friends of Friends” will do more for me than a quick pick me up. This song will serve more for me than 5 hours of energy…as long as I have it on repeat.

Fresh Track: Learner Dancer “Fortune Teller”
Learner Dancer is unconventional and their sound is a bit scary. They lean on a strong psychedelic slant and honor tones so dark that they brighten a black out. Learner Dancer offers an assortment of sound exploding in a number of directions, but is able to harness it with a certain ominous control. They are an Indianapolis band that relaxes with reverb. Song, “Fortune Teller” projects wide riffs and drowning vocals. This track is the ideal introduction to an Indianapolis band that embraces honors their Hoosier hysteria. This madness will be on display this Friday, as Learner Dancer will support Everything, Now! at Radio Radio. The cost is free so make sure you spend all your money at the bar. Enter the psychosis and accept the frightening fuzz next Friday.

Fresh Track: Teen Daze “Brooklyn Summer”
For a guy whose debut LP is scheduled to drop later this year, Teen Daze sure has hasn’t been shy of releasing bits and pieces of what could have been parts of that debut album over the past few years. A chillwaver from Vancouver, Teen Daze, aka Jamison to his friends, is the ultimate bedroom musician turned live act. In 2010 he dropped not 1, but 3 mini albums/EPs over the second half of the year including the underrated Four More Years, the ridiculous good EP Beach Dreams, and the eclectic collection of odds and ends material called My Bedroom Floor all on his Bandcamp page. Late last year, he dropped the C.S. Lewis inspired EP A Silent Planet, a shimmery, visual collection of electronic music based on the premise of one’s first encounters on a new world.
“Brookylyn Summer” is the first release off the debut LP of Teen Daze, All of Us, Togerther, which is scheduled to drop from Lefse Records on 5-22-12. It continues the ambient, visceral experience that is listening to Teen Daze. It’s not so much about the sound as it is what you experience from listening to it. While you can stream it below, be sure to head over to the Teen Daze Bandcamp page for a free digital download of the track while we all await the new album later this year.
As always, enjoy, and please spread the word.
