Fresh Track + Video: Charlie Patton’s War “Say Ya Mine”
Few books, a lot of beer and mostly basketball make up the DNA of Indiana University. While the core grows stronger as we enter March Madness, Bloomington can also be known for a musical project inebriated with the blues. Charlie Patton’s War is a Bloomington based band that was formed in 2010 when all members met at the Jacob’s School of Music. The band released Live at Russian Recording earlier this year, which highlights their dedication to the doldrums. Hoosier hopes are high not only for hoops, but for Charlie Patton’s War as we enter March. Watch the video for “Say Ya Mine” recorded and filmed in the basement of The Hideaway. Fresh Track: Craft Spells “Still Left With Me”
Craft Spells burst onto the scene last year with the underrated Idle Labor, my own personal #10 LP of 2011. Apparently not satisfied with their initial success, the band will be releasing a new EP entitled Gallery on May 15th via Captured Tracks. The first track off the record, “Still Left With Me”, was released late last week and picks up right where their first album left off with that same great electro dream pop sound. Having had the privilege to have caught them live last year, if you see them on the lineup poster for your favorite summer festival, be sure to mark them down as a must see. Check the track list for Gallery and a stream of “Still Left With Me” below.

Fresh Track: Michael Kiwanuka ft. Dan Auerbach “Lasan”
I was excited to learn that The Black Keys took the time to link up with up-and-coming Brit Michael Kiwanuka during their UK tour. News swirled that the soul-revivalist and Keys frontman Dan Auerbach had recorded a track. Well, the rumors were true, and the track was released in the wee hours this morning. The results can be found below. Auerbach is not featured on vocals, but his fingerprints will be visible to any longtime Keys fan. The song, like the rest of Kiwanuka’s work is simple and of another era. Check out a video of Kiwanuka playing an acoustic version of the track on the streets of Brussels HERE.
