Fresh Track: She Does Is Magic “Teenage Kicks” (The Undertones Cover)

She Does Is Magic is a local project that I have grown increasingly enamored with since they dropped their debut, self-titled EP last year. Frontman Chad Serhal keeps busy. He released a solo LP, entitled Golden earlier this year that I turn to consistently when in search of great writing sans sappiness. Serhal also pens some terrific comics and poster art that can be found at his blogspot The Waste of Ink. She Does Is Magic recently released a trio of tracks available for free via their Bandcamp page. Below you can stream the band’s cover of Irish punk-rockers The Undertones’ 1978 hit “Teenage Kicks.” The cover features Jon Rogers of Everything, Now! laying down a seriously sexy sax line to close out the track.  Check out She Does is Magic along with Thought on Tracks favorites The Bonesetters and Laura K. Balke this Saturday at White Rabbit Cabaret. Tickets are $5. The musicians will play a free, acoustic in-store performance at Indy CD & Vinyl that afternoon. For more info, visit Do317.

Fresh Track: Cold Blue Kid “Maybe Town”

Chicago’s Cold Blue Kid began as the solo project of Alex Longoria. After a year of playing in and around the Windy City’s indie scene, Longoria has worked a full backing band into the fold. The project’s sophomore EP Mimic was released earlier this month. Below, you’ll find a stream of their song “Maybe Town.” The track is dense, guitar driven, reverb-heavy goodness. Though Longoria calls Chicago home, he spent half of his youth in Lafayette, IN. As much Hoosier as Illini, this release is Midwest through and through. Cold Blue Kid is a project worth keeping an eye on. Their sound has the depth to fill a large ballroom and the intimacy to rock a campfire. I’m anxious to hear how their sound continues to develop.
