Fresh Track: Field Trip “Give Me A Break”
My ears tend to perk up when Bandcamp Hunter recommends Melbourne artists, as the Australian metropolis serves as the stomping grounds of the site’s anonymous curator. BCH recently picked a winner with ScotDrakula, who we featured in a Band to Watch post last week. From the bowels of a lonely Valentine’s Day, rose a gem in the form of another Melbourne artist – Field Trip.
Field Trip released a free EP entitled Cream yesterday. The four-track effort is filled with the same dream pop guitar licks that served as the backbone of Real Estate’s Days. This is particularly true of “Give Me A Break” featured below. Stream the track and visit Field Trip’s Bandcamp page for a free download of their EP. It does not disappoint.

Band to Watch: Fever Blanket
The Indianapolis music scene evolved this year. Bands like The Bonesetters, Sleeping Bag, Hotfox, and Dreamers of the Ghetto helped put Indianapolis on the indie rock map and I am proud to see the city continue to see expand its footprint on the scene. Just when I thought I was closing the books on this year in music, I stumbled across local band Fever Blanket. This group released their self-titled EP on December 2nd. If you love surf-pop, then you will love Fever Blanket. Songs like ‘Concrete Beach’ cause me to think that they share the same long board with bands like Surfer Blood. Another stamp of approval on a new Indianapolis band that will help you coast into winter. Listen to Colorado below, and download their EP for free via their Bandcamp page.

Band to Watch: Guards
Guards is the side project of Willowz frontman, Richie James Follin. I felt compelled to share it with you as it has been blowing up my headphones and I expect a big year from this project in 2012. You can dig on the free 7 song EP that also features 2011 breakout band Cults on the track “Sail it Slow.” Buzz band blood lines give this project instant credibility as Follin is the brother of Cults lead singer Madelline, and occasionally moonlights on guitar for the band. Sometimes it just runs in the family. The first week in December, Guards released a 7″ entitled Do it Again. If you like The War on Drugs’ Slave Ambient from earlier this year, then you will like Guards.
