Video: TEEN visits Newtown Radio

teen

The familial, female-driven experimental pop group TEEN recently brought their talents to Brooklyn’s Newtown Radio to lay down a video session. The band released one of my favorite debut efforts from 2012 in the form of their underrated LP In Limbo. TEEN played a new track entitled “Paradise” that centers around a frivolous fool before walking a spaced-out, synth-heavy bridge into “Better.” The two tracks showcase the strides that TEEN has taken since the recording of their little doods, the lo-fi EP of demos the band recorded in early 2011. This isn’t your older sister’s bubble gum brand of girl pop.

Video: The Orwells “Mallrats (La La La)

orwells

High school skater punks, The Orwells, released one of 2012’s best debut LPs in the form of Remember When. Watch the band’s new video for “Mallrats (La La La)” below. The track is arguably the most punk-driven and abrasive cut from the album. “Mallrats” is the sound of a thousand parents collectively banging their head against the wall, while their kids churn out aggressive rebellion in the garage. Enjoy.

Video: John Prine “Dear Abby”

dear-abby

Today marks the passing of legendary advice columnist Pauline Phillips, better known by her pen name Dear Abby. Phillips, 94, lost a long, ardous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Upon hearing the news of Phillips’s death, I immediately thought of the comical homage from all-time-great singer-songwriter John Prine. Below, you will find a video of Prine performing the song on the BBC2 television series The Old Grey Whistle Test. An even better live version of the track is included in The John Prine Anthology: Great Days. On the album, cackling laughs rumble through the audience as Prine’s verses grow increasingly ridiculous.
