Video: Illogic & Blockhead “Capture The Sun”
Illogic and Blockhead released two solid EPs last year with Preparing For Capture and Preparing For Capture 2. Illogic’s verbose, internalized rhymes meshed perfectly with Blockhead’s soulful production. While I enjoyed the EPs, the duo’s upcoming LP Capture The Sun is the main course and one of my most anticipated releases of 2013. Below you can find the trippy visuals for the uplifting title track which features Slug from Atmosphere on the hook. Pick up Capture The Sun when it drops in April on Man Bites Dog Records.

Fresh Track: Iron & Wine “Lovers’ Revolution”
Sam Beam is one of those singer-songwriters that rarely misses. Regardless of what shape his sometimes solo project Iron & Wine takes on, Beam has managed to consistently deliver some of the best songwriting of the last decade. Beam flipped the script in 2011, turning Iron & Wine into a full band and offering up one of the best pop rock releases of the year in Kiss Each Other Clean.
This year, Iron & Wine will return to release its fifth full-length record. The LP is titled Ghost on Ghost and is set for release on April 16 via Nonesuch Records. Listen to the album’s first single “Lovers’ Revolution” below. The track finds Beam sticking with the full band, with minimalist jazz undertones.

Fresh Track: Surfer Blood “Weird Shapes”
If an argument can be made that an EP can achieve the strength of an LP, then Surfer Blood‘s 2011 release Tarot Classics is certainly worthy of consideration. Tarot Classics harnessed the best of the 90s alt rock aesthetic and transformed it into a modern archetype for perfect pop rock. Addictive, melodic guitar riffs. Sharp, satirical songwriting. Brash, rambunctious vocals. To put it mildly Tarot Classics did not suck.
Surfer Blood appears to be picking up where they left off on the band’s single “Weird Shapes.” The track features vibrant synth lines built around a bouncy batch of power chords fit for The Strokes circa First Impressions of Earth. Front man John Paul Pitts unleashes a shriek at the tail end of the verses that adds a touch of rawness to the track. “Weird Shapes” is the first taste of Surfer Blood’s major label debut Pythons, set for release on Warner sometime this summer. Listen to the track via the YouTube link below. Any readers fortunate enough to find themselves out on the West Coast, can catch Surfer Blood at one of the handful of tour dates listed below.
