Video: Polica Visits KEXP

If you haven’t noticed, there are several of us (read: all) who write on this blog who have a particular affinity for the female lead singer indie band model.   What it is that drives us to fall in love with this style cannot be completely understood or explained, but my guess is that it involves some weird mesh of sound, sensuality, and sexuality.  2012’s newest darling has to be Channey Leaneagh.  Her newest project Poliça released their fabulous 2012 album Give You The Ghost earlier this year that has become an instant favorite in my rotation.  The group dropped by KEXP studios in February with the set just reaching the interwebs late last week.  And like everything KEXP posts, it is just incredible.

Set list:

Dark Star

The Maker

Wandering Star

Leading to Death

Video: Danny Brown “Grown Up”

Detroit rapper Danny Brown is an artist I’ve been on the fence about for a while.  While his rhyming talent and creativity is undeniable, his aggressive, shrieking delivery has always prevented me from becoming a big fan.  That has all changed with the release of his new video “Grown Up”.  Easily the most accessible song I’ve heard from Brown, “Grown Up” still keeps everything that’s great about his style intact, but his slightly toned down delivery makes it a song that will get a lot of play from me.  As great as the song is, the video (featuring an adolescent version of Danny Brown) is even better.

Video: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros “Man on Fire”

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros recently stopped by the Minnesota public radio station, 89.3 The Current, for a live studio performance. The cast of characters formed a circle and got down for a country-infused knee-slapper in the form of new song “Man on Fire.” The song kicks off the band’s new full-length, Here, released just last week. The track feels like a double take on the Johnny Cash classic of the same name. Sharpe and squad also performed “Also Wash Out” and “That’s What’s Up”, both also off the new record.
