Video: Whistle Peak “Wings Won’t Behave”

whistle-peak

One of our first posts of the year was a Band to Watch feature on Louisville’s Whistle Peak. The write-up came in advance of the band’s February release of its sophomore LP Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls. Lead single “Wings Won’t Behave” was the LP’s stand-out track. The song picked up where “Gold Teeth” had left off on the band’s 2008 self-titled debut. It’s another sleepy, pop tune that proves irresistible. Yesterday, Whistle Peak shared the video for “Wings Won’t Behave.” Watch it below and grab your copy of Half Asleep Upon Echo Falls from Karate Body Records.

Video: Denver “The Way It Is”

denver-band

Denver released its self-titled, debut LP back in August. The album was released on upstart Portland, Oregon imprint Mama Bird Recording, Co. The band is the fun-loving side project of Blitzen Trapper veterans Eric Earley and Michael Van Pelt, who mixed the debut. However, songwriting and vocal duties are handled by Birger Olsen, Mike Elias and Tom Bevitori. Denver recently shared a video for the single “The Way It Is,” which can be found below. The video centers around a honkytonk brawl while the band performs behind chicken wire in an homage to the infamous b-movie Roadhouse, starring the late Patrick Swayze. The party comes to a close after fellow Portland songwriter Hip Hatchet takes an acrobatic fall through a barroom table. Needless to say, it’s worth letting the footage roll until the end.

Video: Matthew E. White “Will You Love Me”

I’ve been sick this week, which doesn’t lend itself to writing. It’s tough to make sense of an album when every other song is spent draining your nasal cavities. Anyway, I was fumbling around on YouTube earlier today to see if there was a video for Matthew E. White‘s “Hot Toddies” as I’ve been ingesting the homespun cure-all each evening with the hope that it would work its magic. While no such video for “Hot Toddies” exists, White did drop one for “Will You Love Me” via Pitchfork.tv today. For more on White’s debut LP, Big Inner, check out my review from last month.
